“Chips” is the widespread term for money chips, measured in thousands of credits or KC. Chips are the widely-used unit of currency in the Nightlancer world and Nightlancers use large quantities of them. It is not a legal currency in Britain, but is widely used since there is little that can be done to stop it in the slums. In Britain in particular, they are also often called "quid".
The currency is itself is called ChipBucks (C$) and they are a form cryptocurrency. Very few people know anything about who exactly invented the currency and who checks on the servers that track transactions, but the currency is long-established and reliable. ChipBucks can be transacted onto physical storage chips, to allow them to be used as a form of cash making tracing them even more convoluted.
